EVERY PLAYER MAKES IT TO THE FINAL IN THE COMPASS FORMAT. Have you organised one yet.
The advantage of running a compass tournament, as far as the players are concerned is that everyone has the same number of games, as against the normal tournament format, when you might be knocked out in the first round. If you have travelled some distance to a tournament, the entry fee and costs of getting there are the same, whether you have one or four matches. It has been said that the compass format has been the best thing to have immerged for the junior game. The Compass draw is a dream come true for everyone. A player can lose the first three matches and still be guaranteed a place in one of the finals. There is still an order of finishing and the best players end up in the final of their section. Each time a player or doubles team wins or loses a match, the competitors advance towards players of comparable ability level, who have had the same results in the previous round. The Compass format, keeps everyone in the tournament right to the very end. You can use the form herewith in pdf format to run your tournament, just print it off and you are away. Although it may appear complex, it is easy to follow in practice and even more satisfactory to play.
